La Clandestina

Mezcalería·$$
The short answer
The reference mezcalería in CDMX. Order a flight of three — espadín, tobalá, tepeztate — and let the bartender walk you through it. Not a cocktail bar; do not order it mixed.

DiscoverCDMX team write-up

Álvaro Obregón at Salamanca — a narrow, wood-lined room that fills by 8pm. Ask for Ricardo or whoever is on the stick: order the espadín–tobalá–tepeztate flight with a side of sal de gusano and orange, and sip it slow. No cocktails, no chaser, no bottle service. The single best 45-minute mezcal education in the city.

Editorial note

"Every mezcal list in CDMX post-2015 is essentially a reaction to what La Clandestina put on the wall. Still the honest first stop."
