Which Mr. W properties are worth visiting in Mexico City?
Mr. W, or Walter Meyenberg, is a prolific designer, but his properties here are hit-or-miss. Hanky Panky is genuine. Grupo Doble B's restaurants like Casa Prunes, Limantour, and Baltra are consistent. His hotel properties, however, range from charming (Ignacia Guest House) to forgettable (Nima Local House). Stick to the bars or Ignacia.
What locals actually do
The Mr. W brand is known by locals, especially for the nightlife spots. Hanky Panky is the one everyone still talks about, and Limantour is always busy, but these are known for their creativity and execution, not because Walter is behind them. We go where the drinks are good and the vibe is right, and often that does mean one of his places, but it's not a devotion to the brand. Many of the newer hotel concepts feel more like a design concept than a hospitality one.
If you go to one, make it Hanky Panky for an original cocktail experience. Book ahead, it's small, and it's always packed.
