Where should I go for one fine-dining dinner in Mexico City?
If you are only doing one fine dining experience, go to Quintonil in Polanco. It's not as experimental as Pujol, but the execution is always flawless and the tasting menu offers a better overall experience of contemporary Mexican cuisine. Book far in advance, like months. It's worth the effort.
What locals actually do
Locals don't go to fine dining restaurants every week, obviously, but when we do, it's often Quintonil for celebrations. Pujol is where you take out-of-towners who want the buzz, but Quintonil delivers a more consistently elevated and delicious meal without trying too hard to be a 'concept.' It feels like eating at a very wealthy, talented friend's house, not a museum.
Quintonil, the full tasting menu with the wine pairing. It's a commitment, but it's the signature experience.
Practical notes
- 01Reservations are essential, two to three months out for prime times. Try calling directly for last-minute cancellations.
- 02Expect to spend around 4,500-6,000 MXN per person with drinks and service.
- 03Dress is smart casual; no need for a jacket, but don't show up in shorts and sandals.
Good to know
- ✗Thinking Pujol is the only option for a top-tier meal here.
- ✗Showing up without a reservation and expecting to be seated.
- ✗Ordering à la carte; the tasting menu is the point.
